2024 supplemental health plans

You can enroll in one or more of the following plans as a new hire during Annual Enrollment, or if you have a qualifying life event. For information on plan premiums and contributions click here.

Accident Insurance

Accident insurance protects you from unexpected financial stress if you or a covered family member experiences injuries from accident.

Hospital Indemnity Insurance

Critical Illness Insurance

Critical illness insurance provides financial support to help you manage expenses related to serious health diagnosis.

Keep in mind

Supplemental health plans only add to coverage provided by your primary medical plan. They don’t cover your day-to-day health care needs.

How much does supplemental health coverage cost?

Supplemental health coverage is relatively inexpensive. These plans often work well in combination with a high-deductible health plan, giving you some added peace of mind at a low cost. The amount you pay will depend on which plan(s) you choose and whether you cover just yourself or family members, too. In addition, critical illness insurance rates vary by age, tobacco use, and the benefit level you select.

Accident Insurance

Accident insurance pays a benefit directly to you if you are injured (on or off the job) and need treatment, regardless of whether you go to a physician’s office, urgent care center, emergency room, or even if you are admitted to a hospital.

This plan provides a lump sum payment for over 150 different covered events and medical services/treatments. The amount you receive depends on your injury, treatment you receive, and the level of coverage elected: either the $25,000 Low Plan or the $50,000 High Plan.

Hospital Indemnity

Hospital Indemnity is an insurance plan that pays cash directly to you in the event of a hospital visit. It can be used to help pay costs from a hospital stay and related treatment, such as hospitalization, childbirth, health plan deductible, and other out-of-pocket costs. You have two plan options: the High Plan and the Low Plan.

Critical Illness Insurance

Critical Illness insurance provides you with a lump-sum payment if you are diagnosed with certain ailments such as cancer-related conditions, heart-related conditions, kidney failure, or major organ transplant. After you file a claim, payments will be made via a check mailed directly to your home. These payments are yours to spend as you would like and can be used to cover every day needs like household bills, ongoing expenses, childcare, and travel. Note: this insurance is not available to New Hampshire residents.

You can choose from two levels of coverage, $15,000 or $30,000. Premiums are age-based. For example, for $15,000 employee-only coverage, employees aged 25-29 will pay $0.655 weekly / $1.31 bi-weekly, while employees aged 40-44 will pay $2.73 weekly / $5.46 bi-weekly. Premiums are also adjusted for tobacco users.
